I don´t usually carry around a camera because of the high incidence of theft but there have been two times so far I wish I had a camera:
1. At Padre Juanito´s church. They have an altar that has an aquarium built underneath it. Live fish and everything. I would think it would be a little distracting but maybe people stay awake that way.
2. When we went downtown to the plaza and were allowed to step into a dance studio where some girls were practicing the traditional Peruvian dance, the Marinera. It is the dance with the long skirts and a scarf which is lifted in the air with the right hand. Very majestic.
This morning was the start of the classic weekend noise I have come to expect from living in Chimbote. At 5:30 AM we were awoken by two men who were across the street setting off firecrackers from their hands. They set off at least nine firecrackers that went off in a row. I almost thought they were trying for a 21 gun salute. Welcome to the weekend! Let the parties begin!
